Obituary

International Master Cris Ramayrat Jr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of International Master (IM) Cris Ramayrat, a celebrated chess icon and passionate gamesman. Born on May 17, 1958, Cris passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of brilliance and inspiration.

Known as the original "Blitz King of the Philippines," Cris was celebrated for his extraordinary speed and strategic mastery, earning him the nickname "Fastest Man Alive" in chess circles during the 1980s. His exceptional talent was evident in his victory at the 1985 US Speed Championship beating former speed king Grandmaster; the San Jose, California Action Chess Championship in 1988; and his stellar performance in the 2021 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) GM Wesley So Cup, where he dominated the senior board for the Manila Indios Bravos and was named the RiChess Masters Best Player of the Conference.

Cris was not only a skilled chess player but also a mentor and inspiration to countless individuals. His passion for games and his commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on both the chess and poker communities.

He is survived by his wife Glenda; his children Gary, JM, and Crislet; his grandchildren Kiel, Maria, Richmarv, Ashley and Aihley; and his five siblings. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his memory and contributions to the world of games will be cherished for generations.

Cris will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a master of the board, a lover of strategy, and a true ambassador of the games he loved. May he rest in peace.
